Why I became a trustee
"In recent years, after taking early retirement, I decided to do some voluntary work supporting women and children in a variety of roles. As a survivor myself, I have worked in Domestic Abuse Outreach services, in Rape and Sexual Abuse support services and spent two years with Surrey Police in the Victim and Witness Care team.
"I am passionate about supporting women and children managing or fleeing abuse, and when I became aware of I Choose Freedom after watching the ITV series about The Queen and seeing Emma speak so well about her experiences and the work she was doing at the Refuge, I messaged to see if she could use any voluntary support. After discussing my skills and experience with the Board, I was delighted when she and Sally offered me the role of Trustee, and I am looking forward to making a contribution to this wonderful charity in the years ahead."
