Why I became a trustee
“I grew up in the Caribbean in a home rife with domestic abuse. As a child, that meant living in a daily cycle of fear and terror. As an adult, I realised how much of that experience shaped who I was and my approach to life. Dealing with the impact of my early life experience took many years of counselling and re-learning, and the process continues.
I had been following the charity for years and getting involved in areas like the Christmas drive, which aims to ensure the children have gifts at Christmas. When an opportunity arose to be a trustee, I grabbed it with both hands, so that I can use both my personal and professional experience to make a difference in an area I am passionate about. There is so much to learn and do to support the charity in changing the lives of the women and children fleeing domestic abuse.”
